The Jefferson Scholarship
The Jefferson Scholarship program was established to identify and attract to UVA the most promising students in the nation and to give sufficient financial support so that they are free to develop their talents and use them for the good of the University community. Demonstrated excellence and exceptional potential in the areas of leadership, scholarship, and citizenship are the criteria for selection of Jefferson Scholars. Additionally, Jefferson Scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of merit and cover the full cost of attending the University for four years.

Nashville is one of 41 regions that submit nominees each year to compete in the Jefferson Scholarship National Selection Weekend at UVA. For more information of the Jefferson Scholarship program including participating schools, the selection process, the stipend, and current scholars: jeffersonscholars.org.

How to Get Involved
Interviews for the Nashville region nominee take place on a Saturday in January. Local alumni are needed to serve as greeters on interview day. Greeters escort the students to and from the interview, talk to the students before their interviews, and answer questions about UVA.

Jefferson Book Awards
The Jefferson Book Award was established by the University of Virginia Alumni Association to recognize outstanding high school students during their junior year. The recipient is a junior who best represents the Jeffersonian ideals of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship.
