Please thank our 2008 UVa Club of Middle Tennessee Corporate Sponsor:

Who's best, ACC or SEC? Let's settle it on the course!
October 13, 2008 | Hermitage Golf Course

CASA of Davidson County is thrilled and honored to partner with local ACC and SEC Alumni Clubs for this year's alumni golf tournament, scheduled for Monday, October 13, 2008 (Columbus Day) at the Hermitage Golf Course.

The tournament is a friendly competition between Nashville area ACC and SEC alumni for bragging rights, prizes, and scholarship money, as well as a fundraiser to benefit CASA of Davidson County [Court Appointed Special Advocates for children], an organization dedicated to providing volunteer advocates for children who have come to the attention of the court primarily due to abuse and neglect.

Rivalry-fueled pranks make for a fun atmosphere! Lunch will be served prior to the early afternoon shotgun start. Team awards and individual prizes will be handed out immediately following the event. At the end of the day, the winning team and conference earns a year's worth of bragging rights, and about the impact they made in helping at-risk children in Middle Tennessee.

C'mon, Hoos! We need a strong team to make a great showing for UVa! Entry fee is $125 per golfer or $500 per foursome. Each school's alumni group will coordinate its foursomes, and each will be responsible for notifying the foursomes of their pairings. Note: It is not necessary to be an alumnus/a to be eligible to play for a school. Being a supportive fan is the only qualification!

Each of the 24 ACC and SEC Alumni Clubs in Middle TN has a goal of supplying two foursomes for the tournament. Until August 2nd, the Alumni clubs' presidents and/or representatives on the NASLC will control foursome selection. After August 2nd, depending upon participation, if more foursomes are needed clubs may be able to add more than two teams. The goal is to have an equal number of teams playing for each conference.

If you're interested in playing, full information is available online at the tournament website. There is also complete contact information, if you have a question or would like to get in touch with the tournament coordinators; or you can contact our own Anne Taylor for further assistance.

C'mon, Hoos! Let's show 'em Virginia rules!

Please tell us how to make your Virginia Club even better!
Did you know there are over 800 UVa alums right here in Middle Tennessee? Unfortunately, only a small percentage of you are actively involved in the activities of the Club -- and we'd like to know what we could do to make the Club more accessible, relevant, and valuable to you.

Please take a moment to complete our very brief and easy online survey to share your thoughts and maybe offer a suggestion or two; also, please take a moment to update your current contact information for us at Hoos Online.

We are working hard to make your Club one of the finest UVa Alumni Clubs in the nation, so please take a brief moment to let us know what you think...and thanks!

2008 Jefferson Book Awards
The Jefferson Book Award was established by the University of Virginia Alumni Association to recognize outstanding high school students during their junior year. The recipient is a junior who the school's faculty considers to best represent the Jeffersonian ideals of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship. This Spring, we are presenting the Jefferson Book Award at 11 area high schools. Thank you to Crystal King for coordinating the book awards this year!

Hoos Happenin' | Accepted Students Party
The Accepted Students Party at Kate and Steven Ezell's home on April 14 was a great success! Local alumni met and recruited this year's fantastic admitted students and their parents. Twenty-five local students were offered admission to the University this year, and we hope the majority of them will enroll. Many thanks to the volunteers who made congratulatory phone calls to the admitted students and to those alums who attended the party – Buddy Best, Stacey Blankenship, Chris Burger, Carlos and Katie Cooper, Kate and Steven Ezell, Elizabeth Hale, Linda Herrell, Robert Herring, Kendra May, Mark Perry, David Taylor, Anne Taylor, Bob Tuke, Emily and Patrick Walsh, and Ridley Wills.

Hoos Happenin' | "Monet to Dali" Exhibit Tour at the Frist
We had a great turnout for our private tour of the "Monet to Dali" exhibit at the Frist Center on March 20. Virginia alumna and Frist Center Curator of Interpretation Anne Taylor gave a very informative and entertaining tour of this wonderful collection! Thanks to those who attended.

Cavaliers Care: KIPP Academy
Thank you to local alumni who participated in our annual Cavaliers Care service project on Saturday, April 14. For the past two years, we have volunteered at KIPP Academy Nashville, a charter public middle school in East Nashville founded and led by UVa alum Randy Dowell. This is an unbelievably special school where 120 fifth and sixth graders from underserved backgrounds are experiencing a culture of learning that is putting them on a path to college.
